Maruka was my little jungle companion while I stayed in a lodge along the Río Madre de Dios in Puerto Maldonado, Peru.
She tapped on my laptop keyboard with her human-like fingers. Eventually she curled up on my lap and when I tried to get up after my laptop battery died she grabbed onto my waist, so I had to sit down again. Awww! She loves me!
She liked to sit with me in the hammock too. Look at her studying her little 4-fingered hand. So sweet! Who doesn’t want a monkey companion? Well, maybe not a permanent one. They can be naughty!
She made off with my room key. Yikes! Thankfully I got it back.
She always knew when she had something she shouldn’t. She would jump back and oof at you when you tried to take it away, for example the box of matches she found.
She also loved to tease the cat. Luckily for her, he was very forgiving and for the most part would just lie there.
We played together on her rope swing.
She insisted on being my personal hair dresser.
And she made it clear I should see no evil nor speak it.
She loved being around people and followed the group for a little ways on our jungle excursions.
She was such a ham!
Almost makes me want to have a pet monkey.
Almost. Read my post titled Monkey Island to find out why you shouldn’t.
